Easy Air Fryer Onion Cream - Use Like Sour Cream! Dairy-Free & Oil-Free
This flavorful sauce is a great way to create cream soups and sauces. Mix in a teaspoon or two of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and top your burritos or tacos. You can even just blend it as is with salsa verde or pasta sauce!
Set the whole unpeeled onion in a baking dish with an onion-size piece of parchment paper in it for easy cleanup. (Do not put directly in your air fryer basket, because it will be a mess to clean up!)
Cook on 400°F for 25 minutes, check and cook 20 minutes more. Carefully remove the pan and let the onion cool.
Once cool, peel the skin off, remove any dark or burned parts of the flesh and remove the ends.
Cut in half and put the pieces into your blender with salt.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Optional Variations
Add lemon juice, lemon zest, or a little apple cider vinegar to get that sour cream tang.
Mix in a little cashew cream for a richer cream to serve to non-vegans.
Chop up chives or other herbs to turn it into a dip or spread.
What are the best onions to use for this vegan sour cream alternative? You can use either white or yellow onions that are still in their skins to make the lightest color.
Can I use sweet onions like Vidalia? If you use sweet onions I would suggest that you add lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to taste or it will not have enough tang.
What about using red onions? You can use red onions if that's what you have on hand, but note that the color will be much darker than cream if you do.
Can I freeze this? You sure can! It will keep for up to ____ months.
This onion cream is used in the Vegan Mac and Cheese with a Surprise! recipe on page 103 of my book ____________. Use this when you’d like a creamy texture with no fat, or as a sour cream substitute.
