It is covered while you cook it.

I don’t add sugar, I used organic unsweetened rice milk which is naturally very sweet, and if kids or people want sweeter they can use some avage.

After sitting overnight in the fridge, it is still a bit watery, so I suspect I put an extra cup of milk by accident. Still totally edible though and there was no breakdown of the milk. I too found it just a bit heavy on the cardamom since it’s a new flavor to me, and for some reason no matter how much honey I add I can’t taste it. All that said though, it’s quite tasty and the texture is great.

I haven’t made it with dairy before, but since it doesn’t cook overnight I think it might work. (Sometimes milk breaks down in an unpleasant way in the slow cooker.)

You could also try Steph’s recipe for rice pudding and add raisins and cardamom. http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2009/03/crockpot-rice-pudding-recipe.html
